Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any special paperwork to book my resort vacation?
Absolutely not. All you need is your UATB eligibility number, the toll-free number (1-888-729-3842), a credit card number, an idea of when and where you want to go and the desire to get away and have fun! When you make a reservation, you will be asked for your UATB eligibility number. You must obtain this from your alumni association and have it ready each time you call.

Do I have to stay the entire time?
The space that is made available through UATB comes in one-week, seven day increments. That does not mean that you have to stay the entire seven days. If the available week runs from Friday to Friday, you can check in on Saturday (Sunday or Monday), but you still have to check out the following Friday. If you can’t stay the entire period, you can also check out early. However, if you check in late, or check out early, you still pay the full rental rate.

Are there any discount airfare, car rentals or other travel packages available to use with my resort vacation?
Not at this time. However, we are working on establishing such a service. In the meantime, there are number of Internet sites that can be used to search out the lowest airfares for travel.

Are the resorts handicap accessible?
Because needs vary greatly and resort facilities are all different, once you chose your resort destination and BEFORE you book your trip, call the resort directly. Describe your needs to them and they can tell you if they can accommodate you.

Can I take non-eligible travel companions?
Yes. The only requirements are that the eligible person be 21 and traveling with the party and that the reservation be in their name. Otherwise, you may take as many people as you want. You can even book multiple condos at the same time and location; as many condos as you want and are available. We just want you to enjoy yourself. As the saying goes - the more the merrier - so bring as many or as few friends and family as you want.

Some of the resorts I see on the web site are timeshare resorts. Do I have to attend a sales presentation?
While some condominium units are at timeshare resorts, there is NO requirement to attend a timeshare presentation. Some resorts are already sold-out and do not have active sales centers on-site. If the resort is still in sales, at some time during your stay, you will probably be given an opportunity to attend a presentation in exchange for a premium or gift (free dinner, theater/show tickets, amusement/theme park tickets, etc.). DON'T PANIC. Everyone at these resorts, even owners, are given this same opportunity. If you like the incentive gift and want to attend the presentation, you are welcome to do so. Do not feel that you have to; you are under no obligation; just say, "No, thanks."

Am I eligible to participate?
Eligibility is very simple. If you are a member of a participating alumni association, with an assigned eligibility number, you are eligible to participate in UATB. If your alumni association has not joined the UATB program, ask your Benefits Director to contact us for information on how take advantage of this opportunity.

I talked to a Vacation Counselor about an Off-Season week in Cancun that I found on the web site and was told my total cost would be almost $2,000 for my wife and I. I thought the UATB Off-Season & Short Notice rate was $349 per week?
You are correct on both counts. The week use of the condo is $349. However, some of the resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean are "all-inclusive" resorts. That means the resort provides your meals, beverages, entertainment, and sometimes day trips, just like on a cruise ship. Anyone who stays at an all-inclusive resort pays a per person fee for this service. At some resorts it is an option. At others, it is a requirement for all guests. Even owners at these resorts must pay the all-inclusive fee when they use their own condo. All-inclusive conditions and rates are set by the resort and we have no control over them. Click Here for a partial list of All-Inclusive resorts.

These fees are based upon a matter of logistics. Many of the resorts that charge such fees are in somewhat isolated areas and may have limited access to potable water and foodstuff (e.g., in Cancun there are very few food stores). In these situations, the resorts must order food and water well in advance to ensure sufficient quantities are on hand for their guests. Therefore they charge an "all-inclusive" fee.

Additionally, the Vacation Counselors will ALWAYS tell you about any all-inclusive conditions and rates BEFORE you confirm a reservation. If you do not want to pay the all-inclusive fee, simply pick a different destination.

When I try to search for places in South Carolina and Mississippi, all that comes up are places in Brazil. Is the Search function broken?
No, the Search function is working correctly. The resort information in the Search database is downloaded directly from the RCI central inventory control system. Resort addresses (as provided by the resort) are used to identify the location of the resort during a search. The "State" search utilizes the standard postal abbreviation code for the state in which the resort is located. Coincidentally, Both the US and Brazil have states with the same postal abbreviations. To automatically separate search results for "SC" and "MS" would add to the complexity of the search function by requiring a two-step search, create longer search times, and increase operating costs. In almost all cases, if you are looking for a resort in the US, it is easy to spot the Brazilian resorts simply from the name of the city. If you do not see any US cities or resorts under "SC" or "MS", it simply means that there are no resorts currently available in South Carolina or Mississippi.

I am interested in staying at the Moon Palace in Cancun, or another all-inclusive resort. How do I go about getting prices?
All-inclusive rates vary by resort and season. Call the reservation center and speak with a counselor about the available resorts, dates and units. Once a unit and date are identified, the counselor can determine what your total cost will be. Counselors will always tell you what the fee is for that resort PRIOR to completing your reservation.

I am searching for accommodations in Italy, but the earliest listing in "Availability" is "9/03/04." Is there any way to reserve something sooner?
No, unfortunately we cannot accept reservations or requests prior to a unit being identified as available for use under the UATB program. As soon as inventory becomes available in any location, we will post it to the web site.

How long in advance do I have to make a reservation to be safe or to be sure there is space available?
Units may become available UATB rental anywhere from 2 to 360 days in advance of check-in. As soon as they become available, they can be reserved. Once a reservation is made, the unit is taken out of the available inventory pool and that unit is yours. Reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis, so a high demand location may be available in the morning, but gone by afternoon. If all available units have been reserved prior to your call, a counselor will assist you with finding an alternative location or available date. When all available other units at a resort have been reserved, the resort will drop off the web site when the database is updated the next morning.
